On a driving vacation, we’d spent a late night driving to our campground destination on the coast. We’d somehow chosen a twisty, claustrophobic road on which we were the only car. After a while there was nothing but our headlights shining into impenetrable fog on a road with interminable switchbacks, completely devoid of landmarks or any reference points.
The next morning, however, replaced the rather eerie night with a beautiful view of the coast, fog in retreat and a clump of late season – October – wildflowers.
